Scone – Cransins/Chocolate Chip

Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup white sugar (I only used ½ cup)
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 cup butter, cold and cubed
- 2 Tbsp. cream (half & half or milk may be substituted)
- 1 cup chocolate chips (blueberries or raisins may be substituted)
- Coarse sugar
Directions
- Step 1 Preheat oven to 400. Whisk egg, sour cream and baking soda in small bowl. Set aside.
- Step 2 Mix flour, white sugar, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar in large bowl. Add butter to flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Step 3 Add sour cream mixture into the flour mixture. Add chocolate chips and mix.
- Step 4 Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead briefly until smooth. Divide dough in half. Roll halves into 8-inch circles. Cut each circle into 8 wedges and put on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Step 5 Brush scones with cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake until golden brown – 12 to 14 minutes.
